EVENTS & FESTIVALS

Cape Town Calendar

First Thursdays Cape Town is a free cultural experience where art galleries and other cultural attractions in and around Bree Street stay open late on the first Thursday of every month. The night is as much about experiencing art and culture as it is about exploring the city on foot. We suggest browsing the galleries from 5 to 9 pm, and then going for dinner.

This iconic event generally takes place during the week before Easter. It presents a number of world class acts on stage in and around the Cape Town Convention Centre.

The Cape Town Carnival usually takes place during the weeks before Easter. Each year boasts a new and spectacular theme and spectators will have the freedom of the city streets on the Green Point Fan Walk. Over 2 000 dazzling costumed performers and musicians will take to Cape Town’s Fan Walk, entertaining viewers with floats and vibrant dance routines.

This is one of the largest, and definitely the most picturesque, cycle races in the world. The Cape Town Cycle Tour is an annual cycle race hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, usually 109 km long.

There are several marathons on in Cape Town every year, but the city marathon is the Sanlam Marathon. The next event will be in the middle of September.

This ultra-marathon usually takes place during Easter Weekend. There are various running lengths, but the most impressive is definitely the 56km run.

Since 2015 Cape Town has been the proud host to the South African leg of the Rugby 7’s. This amazing event takes place in the Cape Town Stadium over two days, usually in the second weekend of December.

Franschhoek Open Garden festival offers gardens that range from small village gardens to beautiful large farm gardens. Every year we try to bring you new and exciting gardens. Other attractions include the ‘Garden in a Pot’ competition and teas and wine tasting in some of the gardens.

The Festival runs from Friday to Sunday during the third weekend in May, preceded by our Book Week for Young Readers. The events take place in a variety of village venues within a few minutes’ walk of each other, creating a vibrant ambience in streets buzzing with book-lovers.

This multi-faceted celebration takes place on satellite farms throughout the Valley, and affords highly esteemed wineries, as well as those smaller hidden jewels, the opportunity to ‘bloom’ as they showcase new vintages and releases, coinciding with the onset of spring. All participating wineries are offering tastings of luscious wines and hosting an eclectic range of charming events on their delightful farms.
